As Harbin, the “Ice City”, and Turin, the “City of Design” join hands along the 45th parallel north, and as the profound academic heritage of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) meets the pioneering international vision of Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), a transformative cross-border synergy in architectural education begins to unfold.

Grounded in a strong inter-institutional cooperation between HIT and PoliTo, the Chinese-Foreign Cooperation Program in Smart Building and Construction works as the platform, the cooperation transcends geographical boundaries and facilitates deep integration of premium educational resources from both institutions. Through the strategic coordination of faculty exchange, resource synchronization, practice collaboration, and the integration of teaching and research, two universities are constructing a new ecosystem for synergistic education, providing a powerful impetus for talent development across the broader architectural disciplines, and establishing a new global benchmark for international cooperation in architectural education.

Professor sharing serves as a core pillar for the integration of resources between the two universities, laying a solid foundation for the teaching quality. Through collaborative development of high-quality professional core courses, the two universities have established an international and high-level joint teaching team, providing a guarantee for high-quality teaching.

Resource integration breaks geographical barriers and enables a multi-dimensional enhancement of teaching content. Both universities fully leverage their respective regional characteristics and academic strengths to establish a two-way empowerment system of International classic cases + Local practical pilot.

By building a closed-loop teaching system rooted in collaborative practice, we are advancing both student competence and teaching quality in lockstep. Guided by the Theory + Practice concept, two universities shared resources into tangible, hands-on expertise for every learner.

Integration of teaching and research creates a virtuous cycle, providing sustainable assurance for teaching quality. The two universities take joint courses as a key platform for the collision of teaching and research philosophies, embedding this synergy throughout the entire teaching process.

The inter-university collaboration between HIT and PoliTo demonstrates that the sharing of high-quality educational resources goes far beyond the 1+1 mode. By bringing together complementary strengths, fostering the exchange of philosophy, and advancing coordinated practical initiatives, the partnership generates the genuinely synergistic effect—1+1>2. In the future, two universities will continue to deepen collaborative mechanisms, broaden the scope of resource sharing, and explore more diverse models of collaborative talent development. Through these efforts,  aim to sustain momentum in cultivating high-caliber architectural talent equipped with global perspective, strong sense of local commitment, solid disciplinary expertise, and capacity for innovation, while steadily advancing the overall quality of architectural education.
