On September 21, HIT held a conferment ceremony in Meeting Room 620 of the Main Building to formally appoint Professor Michele Bonino from Politecnico di Torino as an Honorary Professor. Vice President Liu Jian presented Professor Bonino with the letter of appointment and the honorary professorship plaque.
During the meeting, Vice President Liu introduced the university’s progress in scientific research, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. He noted the close partnership between HIT and Politecnico di Torino in the field of architecture and design in recent years. He commended Professor Bonino for his solid academic foundation, extensive practical experience, and broad international influence in the discipline. Liu expressed hope that, following his appointment, Professor Bonino would inspire faculty members to focus on cutting-edge and innovative topics, collaborate on high-level academic initiatives, and further promote deep exchanges between Chinese and Italian universities in education and science and technology. Such efforts, he said, would contribute to nurturing innovative talents with a global perspective and building world-class disciplines.
In his remarks, Professor Bonino expressed his gratitude for HIT’s trust. He reflected on the long-standing friendly cooperation between the two institutions and stated that being appointed an Honorary Professor was both a great honor and a meaningful responsibility. He pledged to actively serve as a bridge, fostering academic interaction and collaborative practical projects with HIT faculty and students. He also emphasized his commitment to jointly exploring new pathways in research and talent training in architecture and design, aiming to produce pragmatic results that would support HIT’s disciplinary development and enhance the global influence of both universities.
Professor Michele Bonino has long focused on urban regeneration and design. His research delves into the intrinsic value of Italian urban and architectural heritage, while exploring sustainable and green development strategies for the built environment. In recent years, he has led several projects funded by the European Union and the Italian government, and served as the chief architect on numerous design initiatives. He has also curated architectural exhibitions at major international events such as the Venice Biennale.
