From May 11 to 12, Vice President Alberto Giuseppe Sapora of the Politecnico di Torino, along with Francesco Novelli (Co-Director of the Architecture Sector at the China Center of Politecnico di Torino), Alessandro Vigliani (Co-Director of Engineering at the China Center), and Marco Begani (China Affairs Commissioner in the International Affairs Office), visited our university. The delegation came to our College on May 12. The meeting was attended by our College Dean Sun Cheng, persons in charge of the Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, the relevant leaders of the Ministry of Education-sponsored International Joint Laboratory, and student representatives from the 2024 class of the Smart Architecture and Construction major. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, and discipline development, and also held talks with the student representatives.
Sun Cheng introduced to Sapora and his party the operation of the jointly run undergraduate Sino-foreign cooperative education program in Smart Architecture and Construction, the construction of the Ministry of Education’s Green Low-carbon Urban Renewal International Cooperation Joint Laboratory, and exchanged ideas on further plans to deepen cooperation in talent training and joint subject development. Sun Cheng stated that Politecnico di Torino is one of our College’s most important strategic partners. In recent years, the two institutions have conducted deep cooperation in talent cultivation and joint laboratory construction. Recently, there were mutual visits in September 2024 and this March, with close exchanges among faculty and students. In the future, we will further improve the cooperation mechanism, explore more cooperation potential in joint master’s and doctoral training, scientific research cooperation, discipline building, expand the breadth of exchange, deepen joint cutting-edge research, and jointly contribute more to promoting exchanges between our two universities.
Sapora said that Politecnico di Torino attaches great importance to its long-term cooperation with Harbin Institute of Technology. The Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate programs and the International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of the Ministry of Education that the two Architecture & Design Colleges have carried out are excellent outcomes of cooperation between Politecnico di Torino and high-level Chinese universities. He expressed welcoming our College’s faculty and students to visit Politecnico di Torino, proposed jointly establishing summer joint courses for students, expanding the scale of scholar and doctoral student visits, and extending cooperation to more disciplines, driving cooperation between the two universities into a new stage of high-quality development.
Sapora and his delegation exchanged views with student representatives from the 2024 class of Smart Architecture and Construction. He said that Politecnico di Torino is an internationalized university that always values the cultivation and development of international students. He hopes students will make good use of the excellent educational resources of both universities, and are welcome to conduct research and study visits at Politecnico di Torino. The students at the meeting also spoke about their learning experience, shared perspectives on their future study plans, and expressed expectations for more forms of in-depth exchange with faculty from Politecnico di Torino.
