Mid-term Review of the 2026 National 10+ Universities Joint Graduation Design in Landscape Architecture Successfully Held

On April 26, 2026, the mid-term review of the 2026 National 10+ Universities Joint Graduation Design in Landscape Architecture, themed “Songjiang Wharf, A New Chapter of Rusty Glory” — Innovative Urban Landscape Planning and Design of the Harbin Shipyard Area, was successfully held online.


The event was hosted by the Landscape Architecture Sub-Committee of the National Higher Education Architectural Teaching Steering Committee under the Ministry of Education, and organized by the School of Architecture and Design of Harbin Institute of Technology and the College of Landscape Architecture of Northeast Forestry University. Faculty members and students from 17 joint graduation design teams representing 15 universities gathered online to present their outstanding interim achievements.


During the wrap-up session, instructors from the 15 universities spoke highly of the students’ mid-term work. They unanimously agreed that all design proposals demonstrated coherent conceptual logic and a clear planning framework. Closely addressing key themes such as industrial heritage revitalization, ecological resilience restoration, and intergenerational coexistence, the teams further explored diverse scenarios including film-tourism integration, smart elderly care, and seasonally adaptive operations in cold regions. In terms of methodology, the students adopted interdisciplinary frameworks such as scenario theory, conjugate theory, and space syntax, while integrating quantitative analysis and AI-powered technologies. Through these approaches, they developed systematic designs ranging from macro-level spatial structures to micro-level node narratives.


The participating instructors noted that the innovative urban landscape planning and design of the Harbin Shipyard Area actively responds to national strategies for developing new quality productive forces and building innovative cities. It also reflects the transformation of industrial heritage sites from extensive resource-based utilization toward high-quality spatial regeneration and the revitalization of cultural value. Focusing on the rationality of project planning, the feasibility of implementation, the alignment of thematic expression, and the innovation of design thinking, the instructors engaged in active discussions and intellectual exchanges. University instructors from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, including architecture, agriculture and forestry, and art, drew on their respective professional expertise to offer in-depth perspectives on industrial context revitalization and multidimensional value reconstruction, demonstrating strong interdisciplinary collaboration and critical thinking.
